Floating buildings, flexible flood defences, porous paving stones and an energy generating infrastructure are all examples of innovations which make life in the delta safer and more sustainable. Sensors delivering real-time information can help prevent disasters. Smart applications can make delta management not only more efficient but cheaper as well.
Small-scale applications with big effects represent a huge growth market. That is why VPdelta is supporting dozens of start-ups and innovative small and medium-sized businesses in their efforts to develop and launch their products. VPdelta provides space and facilities for testing and conducting pilot projects and offers assistance in drawing up business plans.
VPdelta also explores financing options and helps set up consortiums.

‘Don’t concentrate too much on big infrastructure innovations, but make sure you develop lots of small-scale ones. It’s the small-scale innovations that make money, not just for a few people but for many.’
Michiel van Haersma Buma, chair of the Delfland
